Jayalalithaa blames previous DMK regime for power crisis in Tamil Nadu
Chennai: Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa has accused the previous DMK regime of "poor management" as a result of which work on the 1000 Mega Watt Valoor Unit, the 1200 Mega Watt North Chennai Unit and the 600 Mega Watt Mettur Unit going on "at tortoise pace".

In a statement from her Kodanand summer camp office, the Chief Minister says work in these units "has been speeded up" and they are "nearing completion."

Tamil Nadu has been facing a severe power shortage. The daily power cuts in Chennai have been recently reduced from two hours to one hour and may soon come down to thirty minutes.

On the Koodankulam nuclear power plant, Jayalalithaa says it will soon be ready for production due to her "deft handling of the crisis."

The Tamil Nadu government has also ordered the recruitment of 4000 staff through the employment exchange to augment the strength in the Electricity Board.
