In her petition, Jayalalithaa has asked Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court and other senior judges to decide on the extension of the outgoing trial court judge.
New Delhi:
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa and three others have approached the Supreme Court for quashing the appointment of a new judge to hear the disproportionate assets cases against them.
The petition says Karnataka government has committed contempt of court by not following the Supreme Court order. The Supreme Court had directed the Karnataka High Court to consider giving extension to Judge Balakrishna who retired on September 30. They argued that he had heard the case, which is being tried at a special court in Bangalore, for a long time.
In her petition, Jayalalithaa has asked Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court and other senior judges to decide on the extension of the outgoing trial court judge. However, the Karnataka government has appointed GB Mudigoudar to conduct the proceedings after a complaint from DMK, who wield power at the centre.
The new judge has summoned the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and others to appear in the court on October 30. Jayalalithaa wants a stay of the proceedings till Supreme Court decides on her petition.
Besides Jayalalithaa, her aide aide VK Sasikala along with her family members, VN Sudhakaran and J Elavarasi, are also being tried.
