Chennai: Ms Jayalalithaa sacked her Revenue minister KA Sengottaiyan today from the council of ministers, the reasons for which was not given by the Tamil Nadu chief minister. He would be replaced by ND Venkatachalam on Thursday. Mr Sengottaiyan has also been relieved from his party post as the headquarters secretary.
Ms Jayalalithaa had allotted Agriculture portfolio to Mr Sengottaiyan last year when she formed the government for the third time. Mr Sengottaiyan was then shifted to Information Technology ministry and later to Revenue.
He was the Transport minister during Ms Jayalalithaa's first tenure between 1991 and 1996. Although lower courts had convicted him in the Tamil Nadu Transport Corporations scam, he was ultimately acquitted.
