Chennai:
As the DMK attempted to convince its Treasurer MK Stalin not to resign from his post in the wake of the party's electoral debacle, it had to deal with yet another crisis on Sunday.
Some journalists were injured when they were roughed up allegedly by protesting supporters of the DMK when party leaders thronged Mr Stalin's home in Chennai. The journalists' cameras were smashed in the violence, which the DMK condemned.
"Some evil forces could have infiltrated the crowd and created confusion. However, as organisation secretary of DMK, I express my deep regret on the attack on journalists," DMK organisation secretary T K S Elangovan said in a statement.
Mr Stalin, who later took back his decision to resign after intervention from DMK chief and father M Karunanidhi, tweeted, "My sympathy for press reporters facing unpleasant events from external elements who were present along with party workers and media outside my home (sic)."
Mr Elangovan said the protesters clashed with the reporters thinking a section of the media had made wrong criticism about Mr Stalin.
