Bangalore: Karnataka Government on Saturday decided to convene a one-day session of the Legislative Council on June 28 to go through the process of election of the Chairman of the house.
An emergent cabinet meeting, chaired by Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda decided to summon the session of the upper house
"It has become necessary to convene the upper house session for a day to elect the Chairman, the post of which is vacant now. Ministers present in the city attended the cabinet meeting and others, who could not, conveyed to the Chief Minister that they would accept the decisions," Minister for Medical Education A Ramdas told reporters after the cabinet meeting.
The post of Chairman has been lying vacant following the completion of term of D H Shankaramurthy's membership.
Governor H R Bhardwaj recently appointed senior member M V Rajashekharan as the pro-tem chairman.
Mr Shankaramurthy, who won South-West Graduate constituency in the June 10 election to the upper house, is expected to be the BJP nominee for the Chairman post, party sources said.
