Bangalore: Karnataka government would draw up a project to set up pure drinking water units in villages with a population of more than 2,000, Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister H K Patil said on Tuesday.
While the State government would take the initiative, it would encourage voluntary organisations, local bodies and cooperative institutions which are keen to chip in in this venture, he told reporters in Bangalore.
"We are taking the proposal to Government of India for financial grants", Mr Patil said.
After interaction with officials of the Department in the past two days, the Minister said he was shocked that 30,000 Anganawadis do not have drinking water supply, adding, the government would take measures to provide them the facility.
Mr Patil also said the government would put in place a mechanism to see that status of applications, requests, complaints and any issue raised by people are made known through a website within ten days, barring those related to transfers and matters which should not be in public domain in the interest of the State.
File Movement Service (FMS) which was in vogue during the erstwhile regime of S M Krishna would be activated again, so that people can keep track their files, he said.
