Bangalore:
Karnataka Chief Minister DV Sadananda Gowda said on Wednesday that the state government has decided to release Rs one crore each to 123 drought-hit talukas for tackling the situation.
Speaking to reporters after holding a review meeting on the issue, Mr Gowda said Rs two crore would be released for coastal areas and Shimoga to resolve rain-related damages.
Mr Gowda said directions were issued to district in-charge ministers and secretaries to visit drought-affected areas and chair task force committee meetings.
Criticising the Centre, Mr Gowda said though that the state had asked Rs 6,215 crore, but only Rs 282.35 crore were sanctioned.
Mr Gowda also said sowing should have been done in 74.7 lakh hectares of land, which has taken place in 10.88 lakh hectares only.
There is also a severe shortage of drinking water, he said.
"In May-June, there was a shortage of 65 per cent rain fall," he added.
