Karnataka Law Minister S Suresh Kumar, who had resigned over allegations that he had violated rules in securing a residential site here under discretionary quota, has been given a clean chit on the issue by the Advocate General.
Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda said there was no illegality in securing the allotment according to the report submitted to him today by the AG, whose opinion was sought after the minister resigned when the controversy surfaced.
The AG, who was asked to go into documents and give his opinion on any violation in site allotment by Bangalore Development Authority under "G" category (Chief Minister's discretionary quota) has concluded it was done in accordance with rules, Sadanand Gowda told reporters in Bangalore.
Suresh Kumar, who enjoys a reputation of being 'clean' in state politics, had resigned on June 23 after media reports that he had suppressed facts over the site owned by his kin while getting the 50ft x 80ft site allotment in a posh locality.
A BJP activist had levelled the charges, claiming he had documents got through RTI, prompting Mr Kumar to seek a probe into the matter.
Mr Gowda said he had already spoken to Mr Kumar over the AG's report and asked him to withdraw his resignation.
"The resignation issue could end on a happy note by this evening as Kumar is likely to accept my request", Mr Gowda said.
