New Delhi: The Karnataka government will on Monday move a review petition in the Supreme Court against its three recent orders on the release of water from the Cauvery to Tamil Nadu and direction for the constitution of a Cauvery Water Management Board by the Centre. The Siddaramaiah-led government also said these orders would cause "undue hardship" to the state.
In its review petition, Karnataka has said a "grave miscarriage of justice" has been done to it by the top court's orders. The Supreme Court had directed the state to release 6000 cusecs of water till October 6 and ordered the Centre to constitute a board to manage the dispute till October 4.
The petition further said that the top court has "committed an error" in directing the Centre to constitute the Cauvery Management Board, without considering the fact that three SC judges had in 2013 held that direction to constitute any such board "can wait and may be heard along with the civil appeal".
"The court has not taken cognisance of the fact that the constitution of the Cauvery Management Board, being legislative in character, depends upon the authority exercising the power as well as the nature of the function and obligation arising from the legislation," the Karnataka government said in its review plea.
