Bangalore:
A young woman college student is lying with a battered face in a hospital in Davanagere in Karnataka, 260 km from Bangalore, after allegedly being attacked by a boy she knew.
The boy, who cannot be named because he is under 18, has been arrested.
He was a former student of the college where she was studying and offered her a lift home on his bike on Saturday night. Then, in a secluded area, he attacked her. The girl fought back and was left with several injuries.
"When she didn't come home in time, I called her and she said she would be coming soon. Then she didn't call again and the phone was switched off," said her mother.
"In an alley behind this hospital he has tried to rape her.She is out of danger," said police officer Ravi Narayanan who is handling the investigation.
The young woman said that once she recovered consciousness, she called out and two men came to help her. Medical reports are still awaited but a case of rape has been registered.
