Thiruvananthapuram: Muslims in Kerala celebrated Eid-ul-Fitr today, marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
Eid was declared by Imams in different parts of the state last night on sighting the new moon heralding the month of 'Saval' of the Islamic calendar.
The faithful in hundreds turned up to offer special namaz in Idgahs and mosques across the state, where scholars urged people to dedicate themselves to Islamic tenets of peace, harmony and brotherhood.
Ramadan charity programmes were organised in many places where new clothes, food packets and gifts were distributed to the poor and needy.
Kerala Governor Nikhil Kumar, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and IUML leader Panakkad Syyid Hyderali Thangal greeted Keralites on the occasion.
