Kerala girl bags 98th rank in her first attempt at UPSC exam

Kumbakonam: Although her parents did not show much interest, 22-year-old Sajibanu, hailing from Malappuram district in Kerala, was keen on becoming an Indian Administrative Services (IAS) officer.

And she was overjoyed when she secured the 98th rank in the civil services exam, that too in her first attempt.

"My parents did not want me to be an IAS officer but I was interested. My sisters, uncle and relations encouraged me to do IAS. The college management and teachers encouraged me in this aspect..." said Sajibanu who is presently pursuing MBA at the Annai College.

She spent the money given for college fees for preparing for IAS and studied at the "Manitha neya arakattalai", an institution run by Saidai Duraisamy.

Sajibanu said she wanted to serve people of Tamil Nadu as it was the state that made her an IAS officer. A function was held here to felicitate her.
