Kerala government gets notice over patients losing eyesight after surgery

New Delhi: National Human Rights Commission has issued notice to the Department of Health and Family Welfare of Kerala on reports that four persons lost their eyesight allegedly after undergoing cataract surgery in Thrissur Medical College.

A notice has been issued to the Principal Secretary of the concerned department to submit a report within four weeks, said a release issued by National Human Rights Commission.

The notice was issued after the Commission took suo motu cognisance of a media report that four persons, who had undergone cataract surgery in Thrissur Medical College two weeks ago, lost vision.

The Commission observed that the report, if true, raised a serious issue of violation of right to health of the victims.

More than a dozen cataract surgeries were reportedly conducted at the Taluk hospital from July 22 to August 5 this year.
