Kerala Minority Panel Records Statements of Illegal Bangladeshi Immigrants

Thrissur, Kerala: Kerala State Minority Commission chairman A M Veerankutty and its two members visited an old age home in Thrissur on Tuesday, where 12 Bangladeshi nationals have been staying for the past ten months. Their statements have also been recorded.

Police had arrested them in 2011 for illegal stay in the country. All of them were caught without valid documents. They were staying in the old age home after their release from a Kannur prison. A court had sentenced them to two years in jail and imposed a fine of Rs 21,000 each.

They were not able to go to their native place in the absence of proper travel documents and sought the district authorities' intervention.
