Thiruvananthapuram:
The Kerala government has submitted to the Centre a Rs.750 crore scheme for construction of a sea-wall with groynes (a rigid hydraulic structure built from an ocean shore a bank that interrupts water flow and limits the movement of sediment) for protecting coastal areas, State Water Resources Minister PJ Joseph told the Assembly on Wednesday.
Such sea-walls constructed in some parts had established that groynes could effectively prevent sea erosion wherever it was put up, Mr Joseph said replying to a calling attention motion.
The construction work would start as and when Centre approves the project, he said, adding that the centre had asked the state to furnish more details of the scheme.
The government would submit an additional memorandum with the information sought by Centre soon, he said.
