Kottayam:
The Mahatma Gandhi University in Kerala's Kottayam observed the Malala Yousafai Solidarity day, pledging their support to the 16-year Pakistani girl's campaign to ensure equality in education and opportunity.
University Vice-Chancellor AV George administered an oath yesterday to mark the solidarity day. Around 500 students, holding lighted candles, took the oath at the function.
A video footage of Malala's speech before the United Nations Youth Assembly was screened for the students. A group of students from the School of Physical Education and Sports Sciences also took out a rally to mark the day.
Participating in the function, Member of Parliament Jose K Mani said the students should imbibe the spirit of the Pakistani girl who was striving to achieve the aim of 'education for all' in the face of formidable hurdles.
The Vice-Chancellor said Malala was an inspiration for students all over the world and her life should be made a model for fighting for truth and justice.
