Chennai: Petrol bombs were hurled at two post offices in Chennai early this morning, allegedly by protesters demanding India boycott the Commonwealth Games meeting scheduled to be held in Colombo next month over Sri Lanka's alleged war crimes against Lankan Tamils. No major damage was however reported.
The police have reportedly arrested one person belonging to the "Dravidar Viduthalai Kazahagam", a pro Tamil outfit. "We are looking for three others. We will nab them soon," a senior officer told NDTV.
According to the authorities, an air conditioner was damaged at the Mylapore post office, no damage was reported from Mandaveli.
The Sri Lankan Tamils issue has always been an emotional issue in Tamil Nadu. All political parties in the state have asked the Prime Minister and the Centre to boycott the Colombo meet.
The state Assembly unanimously moved a resolution a few days ago asking the Centre to boycott the meeting citing human rights violations by Sri Lankan army.
The resolution also asked the union government to seek suspension of Sri Lanka from the Commonwealth group of nations. The Prime Minister is yet to take a call on his participation in the meeting. Foreign Minister Salman Khurshid has indicated that he would attend the meet.
