Erode:
A leopard has been on the prowl in a village in Thalawady forest and has killed two goats, triggering panic among the residents.
While pugmarks of a leopard were sighted and a goat found dead in Ramabaiyalure forest settlement area on Saturday, a farmer on Sunday saw the wild visitor which ran away with one of his goats after he raised an alarm, forest officials said.
Officials said they had gone to examine the carcass of a goat which was found dead in a farmer's land on Saturday.
They found that the goat died after a leopard attacked it and noticed the pugmarks in the area.
Meanwhile, this morning the leopard entered the cattle shed of Arugugam in the area and killed a goat.
When Arumugam woke up on hearing noise, he saw the leopard with the goat killed by it, forest officials said.
He raised an alarm and threw stones at the wild cat following which it ran away with the goat before dumping it about 200 metres away.
Forest officials asked villagers not to enter the forest area and advised them to remain indoors during night.
