Salem:
A 38-year-old life convict suffering from AIDS has pleaded for mercy killing in Salem. The convict, Periyaswamy, lodged in the Salem central prison for the last six years, said that he plans to appeal to the President and Tamil Nadu Governor in this regard.
He was brought for treatment today at a local hospital, where he told reporters that he was suffering from AIDS, and that there were no medicines in jail.
Periyaswamy and his associate had jointly kidnapped one Mohan hailing from Salem and murdered him on April 12, 2002. Later, he was found guilty and sentenced to life.
