Chennai: The case will next be heard on the 20th of this month.
Beauty contests and pageants in schools and colleges are banned because they do nothing to further a student's education, the Madras High Court has ruled.
The order - delivered yesterday while the court examines the issue further- says it's unclear " how 'walking the ramp' would benefit a student pursuing a course in engineering."
A woman student, PS Akshaya, who won a beauty contest at an engineering college in 2013 was allegedly promised a prize of Rs. 25 lakh. The student's mother has said in court that when they tried to claim the money, the university said it was not aware of the event.
