Kollam:
A 25 year-old man stabbed his estranged wife, an engineering college student, and tried to end his own life by cutting the veins of his hands, police said today.
According to the police, Durgadas, who was unemployed, had registered his marriage with the 20-year-old girl, a year ago after a love affair and the couple were staying close to Kollam. The girl, however, fell out with him and was staying at home with her parents.
On Wednesday, Durgadas went to the Perumon engineering college near Kollam, where the girl is a third year student and tried to slit her throat with a knife in front of her classmates, who rushed to save her.
He then tried to cut his own throat and veins of his hands. Both of them were rushed to the hospital by the students and are said to be out of danger.
A case has been registered against Durgadas for attempt to murder, sources said.
