Coimbatore:
Charging night patrol police with beating up a man resulting in his death on way to hospital, nearly 100 persons gathered near the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital on Monday, demanding immediate arrest of the erring policemen.
Police said the man had gone outside his house at nearby Vadavallil to answer nature's call when night patrol picked him up along with three others on suspicion of being anti-social elements and took them to the police station for questioning. He was reportedly beaten, resulting in bleeding injuries.
As the man started bleeding, police called his family and relatives and asked them to take him home. His condition deteriorated as they were nearing his house after which family members rushed him to a hospital, but he died en route.
Hearing the news, about 100 persons picketed the area in front of the hospital, demanding action against the policemen and dispersed after top police officials rushed to the spot and convinced them that action would be taken against them.
