Namakkal, Tamil Nadu:
A 25-year old man was today arrested for allegedly posing as a police sub-inspector and collecting money from vehicle drivers on a highway in the district, police said.
Kandasamy of Pudukottai District, who was intercepting vehciles on the highway wearing full uniform, was arrested on the charge of impersonation after he was spotted by Inspector of Police of nearby Mohanoor Balamurugan, District SP P Kannamal said.
When Balamurugan questioned him on suspicion, Kandasamy told him that he was attached to Namakkal police station and had joined it four months ago.
However, Balamurugan found out that Kandasamy was not a police personnel and arrested him.
He was produced before a magistrate court in Namakkal which remanded him to 15 days judicial custody.
