Coimbatore:
A 24-year-old man allegedly committed suicide by setting himself ablaze at Annur in the Coimbatore district of Tamil Nadu today after he was duped by a person of Rs 7 lakh on the pretext of getting him a job in Australia.
The man had completed his BE (Aeronautical) and was working part time in a private college in Erode district.
"He had paid Rs 7 lakh to a consultant who had promised him a job in Australia, which never materialised. As he failed to get a job and a refund of the money, the man decided to end his life and sent a message to his friend to collect his body from Sengalipalayam village," police said.
He doused himself with petrol taken from his motorcycle and set himself on fire.
When his friend reached the spot, he found the man's charred body and informed police, who sent it for post-mortem at a government hospital in Coimbatore, they said.
