Chennai: Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's appeal for donations towards relief efforts in the flood-ravaged Jammu and Kashmir, BJP's Tamil Nadu ally MDMK today pledged a sum of Rs 10 lakh for the purpose.
A party statement in Chennai said the unprecedented floods had devastated the state, and recalled the appeal made by PM Modi.
"MDMK general secretary Vaiko has announced donating Rs 10 lakh towards the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund on behalf of the party," it said.
Over 200 persons have been killed in the worst floods to have devastated the northern state in a century, prompting the Defence forces, among others, to launch extensive rescue operations.
