Bangalore:
The Union government on Sunday said it favours setting up separate departments to treat psychiatry related diseases in top medical colleges due to a huge demand to set up regional centres of NIMHANS from various states.
Union Health Minsiter Ghulam Nabi Azad said there have been demands from Rajya Sabha members to set up regional centres of NIMHANS in all states, but felt it would take a lot of time.
"We can plan setting up of separate departments for mental health in top medical colleges in each state, and government will provide funds for equipment, medicine in these departments and also increase the number of seats in NIMHANS to train more doctors and nurses from these colleges", he said, speaking after inaugurating new infrastructure facilities at National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro-Sciences in Bangalore.
The minister also inaugurated e-hospital services, expanded sewage treatment plant, a hostel complex and dining hall of NIMHANS.
