Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh:
A 17-year-old girl, who was set ablaze by a youth about ten days back, died at a hospital in Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh, police said today.
Keerthi Revathi, a student of class X, had been set on fire by M Naveen (22) on December 18, after she turned down his marriage proposal.
According to police, Naveen, who lived near the girl's residence, was harassing her over the past two years.
Revathi's parents had fixed her marriage with somebody else. When Naveen came to know about it, he came to her residence on December 18, when her parents were not home, and asked her whether she would marry him. But when she refused, he poured kerosene on her and set her on afire.
Revathi, who was admitted to Kakinada Government General Hospital, died today, police said.
Naveen has been taken into custody and further investigations are on.
