Hyderabad:
Telangana State Prisons and Correctional Services Department is planning to install mobile phone signal jammers on the premises of Cherlapalli and Chanchalguda prisons to check the misuse of cell phone, a senior official said in Hyderabad on Tuesday.
"We are planning to install jammers at Central Prison Cherlapalli and Chanchalguda here to block cell phone signals," Telangana Director General of Prisons V K Singh told reporters.
Mr Singh said that the demonstration for mobile jammers was also going on.
"Since first demonstration was not that effective, we have arranged for the second one," he said.
Over 20 cell phones and SIM cards were seized by the prison authorities at Cherlapalli prison this month.
"The department will have a video conferencing facilities in 11 jails across the state and in 10 courts to enable production of prisoners through video in courts," Mr Singh said, adding, it will save time, money and manpower and reduce security risk in taking prisoners to courts.
The officer said that the Prisons Department has formulated a four-stage process to ensure "corruption-free" administration in jails and wants "zero tolerance" towards graft.
"Motivating and encouraging the personnel to be fair, honest and impartial in their dealings and taking pledge in public and promising to work with honest intention is the first stage," Mr Singh said.
The second stage will have a session by psychologists, spiritual leaders and intellectuals besides by senior officers of the Prisons Department on why one should be sincere and honest, he said.
In the third stage those officers who will not be amenable to suggestions and counselling will be extended warning and in the fourth stage those who will not mend their ways, even after these three stages, will be punished to check corruption in the department, Mr Singh said.
