Visakhapatnam: The Indian Navy has joined the search for a six-year-old girl who fell into a storm water drain two days ago and was washed away.
Adithi had fallen into the drain while on her way home from tuitions on Thursday. The area was waterlogged due to flash floods following heavy rains and she was swept away the moment she fell in.
For the last two days, more than 500 personnel from police, fire service and the municipal corporation, as well as the local fishermen, have been searching for the child. On Saturday, the Navy sent two helicopters and two ships to help the rescuers.
The focus is now on a 3 km-stretch of the drain after a search at nearby Lawson' s beach, Appughar, Rushikonda and RK Beach proved fruitless, said Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation commissioner G Pravin Kumar.
The Navy helicopters will search the sea close to Lawson's Bay Colony beach. The ships will look for the child in the deep sea.
The girl's father, C Srinivas, works as a software engineer in Bengaluru.
