Madurai: A new-born baby boy was found abandoned near a garbage bin in a town near Madurai in Tamil Nadu on Thursday.
The infant, wrapped in a shawl and put in a textile shop bag, was noticed by a roadside shopowner at Sandhai Thidal near Thirubhuvanam, police said.
He handed over the baby to police who admitted him to a government hospital nearby.
The baby was declared healthy after examination by the doctors.
