Chennai:
Tamil Nadu government would soon change old electricity meters in over 1.20 crore connections under the Centre's Restructured Accelerated Power Development Reforms Programme in a phased manner across the state.
"We will soon change the old meters with the news ones in a phased manner. It will be done under the Centre's RAPDRP," Electricity Minister Natham R Viswanathan told the state assembly on Monday.
The state presently has over 90 lakh single-phase connections and over 30 lakh three phase connections.
"To change a single phase connection, it would cost Rs 785 and Rs 2,600 for a three-phased connection. So, it would cost the government a total of over Rs 1,366 crore," he said.
The Centre has allotted Rs 1,125 crore towards RAPDRP and replacement of old meters, he said.
