One man hacked to death in police station; another nearby in Tamil Nadu

Seerkali, Tamil Nadu: Two accused in a murder case were on Friday hacked to death, one inside a police station at Poompuhar near Seerkali in Tamil Nadu, and another a few feet away, triggering protests by locals.

Police said the duo, accused in the murder of DMK Headquarters Executive Committee member Muthu Rajendran, had come to sign the register at the police station as part of their bail condition when a gang barged in and hacked one of them and hit him with stones, killing him on the spot.

The other man made a vain bid to escape and ran a few feet away from the police station, but the gang went after him and struck him on the head with stones. He too died on the spot, police said.

Meanwhile people of the locality staged a protest against the murders and refused to let police remove the bodies.

Police said an enquiry is being held into the incident.
