Passengers arrested on charges of carrying gold illegally

Chennai: At least six passengers who arrived in an Air Lanka flight from Colombo were arrested at the Anna International terminal here on charges of illegally carrying one kilo gram of gold, airport sources said.

The passengers, hailing from Tiruchirapalli and Thanjavur districts in Tamil Nadu, had hidden the gold, valued at Rs 30 lakh, in their inner-wear, the sources said.

As they moved in a suspicious manner, customs officials checked them and found the precious metal.
