Chennai: The Madras High Court on Tuesday dismissed a petition seeking a direction to the Tamil Nadu government and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to ensure sufficient parking space for those going to watch IPL matches at M A Chidambaram stadium from April 4 and also take steps to avoid traffic jams.
A division bench, comprising justices Elipe Dharma Rao and M Venugopal, dismissed the petition by one Varaaki on the ground that the petitioner had moved the court without getting any information or particulars on steps being taken to conduct the IPL matches.
The petitioner claimed he had sent a representation to the state government, BCCI and others on March 29, pointing out that parking facilities provided by Tamil Nadu Cricket Association for those visiting the stadium to watch the matches were inadequate and caused a nuisance to the public.
He also submitted that he had sent a representation to the city police commissioner to inspect the infrastructure available inside the stadium for spectators.
He had also sought an interim injunction staying the commencement of the league matches till the state board Class X public examination, due to commence from April 4, was completed on April 23.
