Mumbai:
Taking up the cause of the people of disputed areas on Maharashtra -Karnataka border, a Public Interest Litigation has demanded that they should be allowed to apply for jobs recently advertised by Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation.
These areas are located in Bidar, Belgaum and Karwar districts of Karnataka, and are claimed by Maharashtra.
Division bench of Justices Sharad Bobade and Rajesh Ketkar issued notice to Maharashtra Government and other respondents, seeking replies in two weeks.
However, the HC did not grant any interim relief, though September 5 was the last day of submitting applications to MSRTC.
Petitioner Jay Chougale, an activist from Belgaum, contends that as per a 2008 circular of Maharashtra Government, candidates from disputed villages in the border area would be eligible to apply for government jobs in Maharashtra.
But MSRTC's advertisement of August 7 this year required that applicants must be domiciled in Maharashtra. Chougale argues that MSRTC did not follow the 2008 policy.
