Pollution Control Board to be computerised to issue approvals for industries

Chennai: In a bid to move towards a paperless office, Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) would soon be computerised to issue approvals for private industries in the state.

According to the proposals for 2012-13, TNPCB will take steps to develop software and acquire computers to issue approvals after scrutinising applications of private industries. The Board has allotted Rs 50 lakh towards this decision after the Chief Minister ordered its computerisation.

An average of 1,500 to 2,000 approvals to industries are issued every year by the board.

The Board would also issue tablets with internet connection to all its engineers monitoring pollution levels in every district at a cost of Rs 50 lakh. The move will enable them monitor pollution levels round the clock.

Enhancing its infrastructure, TNPCB would build district offices in Thanjavur, Villupuram and Pudukkottai districts at a cost of Rs 3.75 crore this fiscal and fill up 121 Assistant Engineers and 30 Environment Experts positions in 2012-13.
