Portfolio rejig likely this week: Eshwarappa

Bangalore: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister K S Eshwarappa today said Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar might reallocate portfolios of ministers in a week's time.

"As many as five portfolios might be reallocated by Shettar in a week's time," Eshwarappa told reporters at Belgaum, some 450 km from Bangalore.

Eshwarappa had earlier said he was ready to divest himself of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj departments and hold only the Revenue portfolio.

Reacting to Union Labour Minister Mallikarjun Kharge's remarks that Shettar does not know Hyderabad-Karnataka region, Eshwarappa said it was not correct on his part to comment on
Chief Minister.

"In fact, what has Kharge done to Karnataka in his 60 years of political life?" he quipped.

After visiting a Goshala in Dharwad, Eshwarappa flayed the Centre for not releasing funds for taking up drought relief works. "We have announced Rs 3,500 crore loan waiver benefiting 15 lakh farmers," he said.
