Bangalore:
A day after the state legislative assembly election, the Karnataka Regulatory Electricity Commission (KERC) recommended an increase of 20-25 paise per unit of power today for domestic and commercial users.
According to the tariff order posted on the commission's website, the increase will be 20 paise per unit for domestic consumers and 25 paise for commercial and industrial users in Bangalore.
The commission, however, exempted consumers under the state-run Bhagya Jyothi (BJ) and Kutir Jyothi (KJ) schemes from the hike as they are fully subsidised by the state government.
Educational institutions and hospitals have also been exempted from the hike.
The new tariff order will come into force after the new government is formed and when state-run utility Bescom notifies the hike.
