Madurai: The principal and two teachers of a private school here were arrested on Thursday in connection with the death of four students who drowned in the sea off Tuticorin last week when they went on a tour, police said.
The three men, who had accompanied the children on the tour on July 12 from Tirungar area, were arrested on charges of negligence and later taken to Tuticorin for questioning, they said.
Earlier on Thursday, parents picketed the school, demanding that recognition granted to it be cancelled and a murder case be registered against the teachers responsible for the deaths.
Education department Officials rushed to the spot and pacified them, police said.
The four students drowned and another was reported missing that day while two others were rescued when they went to take a bath in the sea.
