Puducherry: Congress general secretary V Narayanasamy today alleged that territorial police failed to provide due security to party vice president Rahul Gandhi during his visit to rain-hit villages in Puducherry on December 8.

In a release, Mr Narayanasamy said Mr Gandhi had walked through slushy fields and listened to grievances of farmers and villagers unlike Prime Minister Narendra Modi who only did an "aerial survey of the rain havoc and Chief Minister N Rangasamy who sat in his car."

He alleged that police failed to provide adequate security to the AICC vice president, who had come under Z category of security, in Shanmuga Nagar Vambapet village.

No sufficient police personnel were deployed during his visit to rain ravaged areas, he said.

Instead of ensuring security, the Home Department of Puducherry had reportedly written a letter to the Union Home Ministry stating that Mr Gandhi had breached security arrangements while meeting people in the villages, he said.

Mr Narayanasamy said he had written to the Union Home Minister bringing to his notice the "irresponsible style of functioning" of the police department in Puducherry during the leader's visit.
