Puducherry: Trade Unions affiliated to different political parties today celebrated the May Day with zeal and enthusiasm in the union territory.
Leaders and volunteers of the trade unions owing allegiance to AITUC, CITU, DMK, AIADMK, the Congress and the ruling AINRC celebrated the day by hoisting their respective union flags at various centres.
They also held rallies and public meetings to highlight the celebration of the day.
A release issued jointly by AITUC, CITU and a few other unions said the next government at the Centre should take steps to protect welfare of the working class.
Lt Governor Virendra Kataria, Chief Minister N Rangasamy and various other political leaders greeted the working class on the occasion.
