Red sanders logs worth Rs 2.26 crore seized in Andhra Pradesh

Kadapa, Andhra Pradesh: Police said on Wednesday that they have seized over 350 red sanders logs worth Rs 2.26 crore and arrested four persons in this connection.

Addressing a press conference here, Kadapa Additional SP Rajendra and Divisional Forest Officer KNN Murthy said the red sanders consignment was on its way to New Delhi from Chennai.

Acting on a tip-off, a special team conducted a raid and seized a truck carrying the logs at Nemalla Palem in Guntur district on Tuesday, they said.

The truck driver and three others were arrested.

Red sanders is a unique species of tree found in limited numbers in Andhra Pradesh. The wood, prohibited from being exported, is used to make musical instruments and to make medicines in Japan and China.
