Coimbatore: The panic stricken people of Valparai in the district today appealed to Forest Department officals to trap a leopard, which is on move inside the human habitats for the last one week.
The leopard has entered a school early last week, triggering panic among the parents and students alike, even as pet animals like chicken and goats are being attacked or taken away by it from different areas, police said.
Appearing from tea bushes, the leopard has made an attempt to chase and attack a woman estate worker yesterday, as the people of Vazhathottam complained that a hen was taken away by the carnivore this morning, adding panic to fear prevailing in the area for the last one or two months, they said.
Amidst the appeal by the population to come out with a permanent solution to the menace and protect their lives, department was considering to place traps in the area, where the leopard was frequenting, police said.
