Chennai: A strayed tigress cub that got trapped in a goat shed at a tribal settlement outside the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve in Tamil Nadu last week has died.
The post-mortem report revealed internal bleeding.
Though authorities had treated her for stress they could not examine her for internal injuries as they did not have the CT scan equipment in the tiger reserve.
"The nearest such facility is at the Vandalur Zoological park outside Chennai and we couldn't take her there due to the long travel involved and the condition of the cub," said a senior officer.
The cub had killed a goat and got trapped in the shed on Tuesday. The local people alerted officials who rescued her.
The sighting of the cub was seen as a healthy sign for the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve which is estimated to have around fifty to seventy big cats.
