Rs 50 crore for police hospital: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy

Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Sunday said his government had sanctioned Rs 50 crore for construction of a hospital for policemen, and another Rs 35 crore for maintenance and renovation of police quarters.

Addressing a police gathering at Gosha Mahal stadium in Hyderabad, Mr Reddy, after paying tributes to the policemen who died in the line of duty, said the state police were a model for police forces of many other states when it comes to maintenance of law and order.

"Like the security forces who guard the country's borders, the police have been countering the anti-social elements, left-wing extremism, fundamentalist extremism, and controlling the riots peacefully," he said.

Saying that his government was providing necessary funds for modernisation of the force, he added that Rs 50 crore had been sanctioned for construction of "a corporate-level hospital" for the policemen, and Rs 35 crore for renovation of their residential quarters.

The requests from the police department such as undertaking a large-scale recruitment drive are being considered, he said.

Earlier, Governor E S L Narasimhan placed a wreath at Police Martyrs memorial at the stadium. Home Minister Sabitha Indra Reddy and Director General of Police V Dinesh Reddy also addressed the gathering.

The week from October 15 to October 21 is being observed as the Police Commemoration week.
