Chennai:
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa has sanctioned Rs 750 crore for the year 2012-13 towards implementation of her government's Integrated Urban Development Mission, taken up with an estimated cost of over Rs 6000 crore.
The scheme aims to provide basic amenities such as drinking water and solid waste management etc. to cities and towns across Tamil Nadu recording one of the highest urbanisation figures at around 45 per cent with the numbers projected to reach 60 per cent by 2020, an official release here said.
Of this, Rs 500 crore was allotted for Corporations excluding Chennai and municipalities and Rs 250 crore for town panchayats.
She had announced the scheme earlier, earmarking Rs 6654.03 crore for areas coming under different local bodies including Coprorations, the release added.
