Chennai: A boy of Class X has been arrested in Vellore district of Tamil Nadu for allegedly murdering a girl of Class VI from the same school.
The girl who used to commute by cycle to her school did not return home at Periyaanguppam on Monday. The body of the 11-year-old girl, bearing multiple stab wounds and with her hands tied, was found later.
The postmortem report revealed the girl had been subjected to sexual assault as well.
The police has registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences. Investigation reveals the boy had also allegedly robbed the girl's anklets.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O Panneerselvam awarded an ex gratia of Rs 3 lakh to the girl's family and has directed the state police chief to expedite the investigation.
