Chennai:
Schools and colleges in the hill resort of Nilgiris district in Tamil Nadu will remain shut tomorrow following a forecast of heavy rainfall by the MeT department.
Areas like Gudalur, Pandalur and Devala received good rains, while some pockets of Ooty received continuous drizzle today.
"We are ordering closure of educational institutions as a matter of abundant caution. We are keeping an eye on all vulnerable places. Safe shelters are ready and all other measures are being taken," district Collector Ms Archana Patnaik told NDTV.
Though a part of the South west Monsoon, authorities are not taking any chances, particularly after the calamity in Uttarakhand which has left over 800 dead.
