Chennai: Seven boys drowned in separate cases in Chennai, Erode and Nagapattinam districts, police said on Thursday.
Three boys, all aged 16, drowned in the sea near the Marina beach in Chennai when a giant wave pulled them in on Wednesday evening, police said.
The bodies washed ashore on Thursday, police said.
In the other case, two boys drowned in a lake at a village near Anthiyur in Erode district on Thursday.
The boys, aged 12 and 14, went to take bath in the lake along with their three other classmates of sixth standard at a school in Kollapalayam.
In Nagapattinam district, two boys, aged three and four, drowned in a pond being dug under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme at a village near Vedaranyam in the district on Wednesday evening, police said.
