Bangalore:
Veteran BJP leader DH Shankaramurthy is all set to be elected unopposed as chairman of the Karnataka Legislative Council for the second successive term on Thursday.
Mr Shankaramurthy, who recently won the South-West graduate constituency for a fourth consecutive term, was the lone contender to file nomination papers on Wednesday for the upper house presiding officer election slated for Thursday.
In the 75-member house, the ruling BJP has a strength of 41, followed by Congress at 17, JDS at 12, one Independent candidate and four vacancies.
Opposition Congress and JDS have chosen not to contest going by the majority the ruling dispensation enjoys in the house.
An RSS-groomed leader, Mr Shankaramurthy held the post of chairman, which became vacant after his tenure as member of the upper house ended two weeks ago.
However, he won the June 10 council poll from South-West Graduates constituency.
A one-day special session of the upper house will be held on Thursday
